Austere ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Austere mobile application ("App").
By using Austere, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information exclusively to:
Create and maintain your account
Personalize your AI coaching experience
Generate daily check-in responses and journal prompts
Track your goal progress over time
Send you daily check-in notifications at your chosen time
Improve the quality of coaching responses
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to third parties, or any purpose beyond delivering the Austere coaching experience.
4. AI Coaching and Data Processing
Austere uses the Anthropic Claude API to power your AI coach. When you send a message to your coach or submit a check-in, your message content is sent to Anthropic's API for processing.
Messages sent to the coach are processed by Anthropic's API
Anthropic's data handling is governed by their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy
We send only the content necessary to generate a coaching response
We do not share your name, email, or account details with Anthropic
Your journal entries and check-in history are stored in our secure database and may be referenced to provide personalized coaching context.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a SOC 2 compliant database provider. We implement the following security measures:
All data is encrypted in transit using TLS
All data is encrypted at rest
Row-level security ensures you can only access your own data
Authentication is required to access any personal data
Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your personal data with advertisers or marketing companies.
We share limited data only with these service providers who help us operate the app:
Supabase — secure database and authentication
Anthropic — AI coaching response generation
RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase verification
Apple — payment processing for in-app subscriptions
Each of these providers is contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only to provide their services to us.
7. Subscriptions and Payments
Austere offers paid subscriptions processed through:
Apple App Store in-app purchases
Web checkout via Stripe
We do not store your payment card information. All payment processing is handled by Apple or Stripe. Your subscription status is managed by RevenueCat.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days
Journal entries, check-ins, and coach sessions are permanently deleted
Email and authentication records are removed from our systems
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
Correction — update any inaccurate personal information
Deletion — request permanent deletion of your account and all associated data
Export — request your data in a portable format
Opt out — disable push notifications at any time in your device settings

10. Children's Privacy
Austere is not intended for children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal information please contact us and we will delete it immediately.
11. Push Notifications
Austere sends push notifications for:
Daily check-in reminders at your chosen time
Weekly review reminders on Sundays
You can disable notifications at any time in your iPhone Settings → Notifications → Austere.
12. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident you have the right to:
Know what personal information we collect
Know whether your personal information is sold or disclosed
Opt out of the sale of your personal information
Access your personal information
Request deletion of your personal information
Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights

13. European Privacy Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area you have rights under GDPR including:

Right to erasure
Right to restriction of processing

Our legal basis for processing your data is performance of a contract — we need your data to deliver the coaching service you signed up for.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by:

Displaying a notice in the app
Continued use of Austere after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
